Robin Chavez Obituary

Robin Gyda Chavez (née Scicluna) passed away November 6th, 2023, at home, surrounded by loved ones, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born on October 22nd, 2023, in Detroit, Michigan, to Joseph and Kathleen Scicluna (née Wentworth), and graduated from Henry Ford High School in 1971. She attended Michigan State University, graduating with a degree in criminal justice in 1975. Her time in East Lansing left an indelible mark on her, and she remained a Spartan for life.

Upon graduation, she enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975, serving four years. While serving in San Antonio, TX, she met her ex-husband, Samuel Philip Chavez, who also served in the Air Force. While in the Air Force, she earned her master’s degree from Webster College. Her first son, Philip Joseph, was born in 1979, and the family transferred to San Vito del Normanni Air Station in Italy. Her second son, Jonathan Scott, was born in 1983 in Naples. In 1984, the family moved to San Angelo, TX, where Robin started a nearly 30-year career in law enforcement, first with the San Angelo Police Department and then beginning in 1991, she served 20 years as an officer in Carrollton, TX, rising to the rank of Sergeant before retiring in 2011.

Her dedication to her country and community did not stop in 2011, as she regularly volunteered with the Red Cross in retirement.

Robin lived to see her Texas Rangers capture their first World Series title, and summer nights watching the Rangers play brought her countless hours of joy over the past 30 years. She was an active knitter and completed 11 marathons, including the Boston Marathon in 2006.

Robin was preceded in death by her beloved son Philip in 2019. She is survived by her son Jonathan, brother Jon Scicluna, sisters Andrea Line and Jo Ann Hockin, nephews David, Christopher, Stephen, and Joseph, and niece Sara.

Robin’s memorial service will take place Wednesday, November 29th at 2:00 PM at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Arlington, TX. A visitation will be held that same day at 1:00 PM.
