Patricia Ann (Cook) Hoffmeister, 86, of Lewisville, Texas passed away November 2, 2022.
Pat was born on July 4, 1936, in West Palm Beach, Florida, to James and Daisy (McCroan) Cook. Not long after graduating from Lake Worth High school in 1954, Pat was eating with friends at a local diner and asked a handsome young man to pass her the salt. David Hoffmeister obliged, one thing led to another - and after a 4-year courtship, David & Pat were married on February 22, 1958. They remained together until David passed away just a month short of their 60th anniversary in 2018. During that time, they traveled (he was a pilot), raised three sons, and saw the family grow with the addition of daughters-in-law and 6 grandchildren.
In addition to the full-time job of raising 3 boys, Pat worked as an administrative assistant at HUD and other federal agencies. In later years, she provided childcare services for local families and churches, and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Pat became an avid “sweepstaker” in retirement, and that hobby provided a steady stream of surprises in her mailbox - everything from gift cards & T-shirts to small appliances and even a trip for 2 to Hawaii. Her favorite thing to do with those prizes was give them away to family & friends (except for that Hawaii trip, of course). Pat also loved trying new restaurants and meeting with her friends to play mah jong and other games. She never met a stranger, was quick with compliments and would strike up a conversation with anyone.
Pat is preceded in death by her husband Dave, her parents and siblings James, Pauline, Korea and Havaline. She is survived by her three sons: Marc Hoffmeister and his wife Danielle of Richardson, TX; Chris Hoffmeister of Conroe, TX; James Hoffmeister of Azle, TX; and six grandchildren: Karen, Hannah, Ray, Emily, Renee & Davie Ann; and other family and friends.
The funeral service will be held at 10am on Monday, December 5th at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Grapevine, Texas with a reception afterwards. A private burial will follow at St Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Arlington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church or St. Francis Outreach: 861 Wildwood Lane, Grapevine, TX 76051 (or online at sfatx.org/give ). The family wishes to thank Vitas Hospice and Silver Leaf Assisted Living for their care and support during Pat’s final days.
