Mark Edmund Strawbridge

Mark Edmund Strawbridge passed away on March 7, 2023.  He was born on July 24, 1928 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Raymond C. and Ruth Roberts Strawbridge.  While in high school, some of his fondest memories were made while working at his uncle’s gas station to earn money to go to college.  After graduation from Winchester High School in 1946, he went to Boston University.  In 1949 Mark graduated with a BS in Business Administration.  After graduation he worked as an insurance underwriter until he moved to Texas in 1950.  While in Dallas, he worked for K B White Co as an auditor until May 1951 when he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War.  While in the Army he received the National Defense Service Medal and was stationed the majority of the time at Fort Devens.  In May 1954 Mark was honorably discharged from the Army as a Sergeant.

After the military, Mark worked for Lone Star Gas in the land department.  He drove from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean and from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast in 33 days to get gas leases signed.  With all the land lease experience, Mark launched his career as an Independent Petroleum Landman.  He became a highly sought after “land man”.  Many family estates relied on his skills to catalogue mineral and royalty interests.  He could tell you any road to take if you wanted to travel the western part of the United States.  His ability to remember details was incredible.

Mark was a Mason for 70 years and was a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason.  He was member of American Legion Post No 581, Dallas Scottish Rite, Dallas Lodge #760 AF & AM, Dallas Chapter #47 Bran, Dallas Council #18 R&SM, Dallas Commandery #6 KT, Hella Temple AAONMS.

He was a former member of the Texas Society of The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

Mark was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Jim and younger brother Frank.  He will be missed by his relatives and many friends.

Mark will be inurned at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church on March 23, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.  Memorial gifts may be sent to Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children in Dallas or Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington.
