Joan Kay Bjelde

Joan Kay Bjelde of Krugerville, Texas, passed away on Aug 23, 2023 surrounded by family and friends. Celebration of Life services will be held on September 23rd 10:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ Latter-Day Saints 8801 Martop Rd. Aubrey, TX.

Joan was born on November 6, 1940 to Roy and Charlotte Goettle in Iowa City, Iowa. She married Larry Willey in 1959 & had four children: Terri (Mike) Finley, Danny Willey, Paige (Dickson) Housden, & Patty (James) King. She later married Omar Bjelde, who had seven children, David, Donald, Daniel, Douglas, Debbie, Denise, Lina & Laneva (adopted). Together they had their golden child, Omar Olai Bjelde!

As the middle child in her family, Joan found her voice early in life. She had a quick wit & a laugh that drew others in. She loved to tell a joke & was a natural storyteller. She had a way of finding the funny side of things. She led by example & demonstrated the golden rule, NOT do it to them before they do it to you! She would tell you “When things get tough you pull your big girl panties up & get on with it!” Also “there is more room out than in” LOL! “It really is ok to eat your dessert first, you can even have it for breakfast!” Wants you to know “Heaven is Beautiful!” Joan was a true fighter & tougher than most! She had a massive stroke in 1976 but always had a positive attitude & felt “peachy”, “perfect”, & “could do anything!” Nothing was ever easy for Joan, but she always held her own & did things in her own time. She retired from Proctor & Gamble in Iowa City, IA working double shifts often to help pave the way for other women in a man’s work place while just trying to support her 4 children as a single mom in the 70’s! She enjoyed quilting with Bernie, Aimie, Karen & Mary which they donated to the Krugerville PD to hand out to families in distress. She also loved spending time with family, her many friends, & was devoted to serving her faith.
