James (Jim), L. Frey, 87, of Dallas, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2021, surrounded by his family. His survivors include his loving wife, Marilyn Frey of 40 years, his sons James R. Frey and his wife, Nancy of Wichita, KS, Brian C. Thomas of Dallas, TX and Donald W. Thomas, his wife Dee and their daughter Savannah, of Dallas, TX.
Jim was born in Overton, Texas, to Jack and Effie Mabel Frey on August 23, 1934. He spent his youth throughout East Texas and the Midwestern oil regions of the US. He proudly served in the US Army as a Personnel Administration Specialist stationed in Germany. After his military career, Jim attended college and enjoyed a successful career in hospital administration that spanned over 50 years.
On August 28, 1981, Jim married the love of his life, Marilyn. Shortly after their marriage, the couple moved to Dallas, Texas, to build a life together. Jim accepted a position with St. Paul Hospital, where he later retired. After retirement, he spent nearly a decade as the Controller of Net Success, Inc.
Jim was a natural leader who loved bringing out the best in people, especially his three sons and granddaughter. He enjoyed golf, aviation, growing businesses, and most of all, spending time with family and friends. Professionally- Jim was a Certified Patient Accounts Manager and Advanced Member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association. Philanthropically, he was an entered and accepted 33rd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member in good standing with the Lion’s Club. Jim was also a private pilot, small business owner, husband, father, leader, and honorary “Uncle Jim.”
After his retirement, Jim spent his time traveling, at the gun range, perfecting his golf game, and making memories with his wife, children, and granddaughter Savannah. Jim left a great legacy with those closest to him and lived a rich and rewarding life. He is deeply missed but always remembered.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to the Scottish Rite Hospital in honor of James L. Frey.
