Charles Collings, Jr. Obituary

Charles Collings Jr. 83, has made his final sail to sea on August 1, 2022.

Charles Collings Jr. was born to Charles Collings and Katherine Dee in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, PA on December 3, 1938. Born and raised in South Philadelphia in the Greys Ferry section of the city.

He was a proud Merchant Mariner and told his friends and family of his adventures at sea. He sailed his first voyage on December 2, 1960 during his career he had a total of 8601 days at sea in his career. He held the position of FOWT (Fireman, Oiler, Water, Tender) and engine utility. The salt water got into his veins.

The ship Santa Isabel was his favorite perhaps as he met his then future wife at a restaurant in a seaport in Callao, Peru. He then gained a Peruvian family that loved him dearly as he became the best and funniest American uncle. His jokes and sense of humor made strangers, friends, and family laugh.

He stopped sailing the seas in 1986. He then worked several years at the Petty’s Island shipyard in Pennsauken, New Jersey for Crowley American Transport before he retired.

He loved all his South Philly foods like Philly cheesesteaks, Roast pork, and Italian hoagies. He especially liked scrapple, Taylor Pork roll, Heinz India Relish, Maglio’s hot Italian sausage, Dietz and Watson German Bologna, sticky buns, and Tasty cake pies. He continued to enjoy his favorite Philly foods in Texas when they were delivered to him with love.  Favorite drink of all his life was Pepsi. He also was stocked to not run out.

His smile and cheerful spirit made the days brighter of those around him. The smile became greater on August 5, 2005 when his one and only granddaughter Selena was born. In 2019, he left Philadelphia on to another adventure to support his daughter Grace as she moved to Texas for a new career opportunity. Texas also brought another bundle of joy when he adopted his puppy Tony that he loved dearly.

Charles Collings Jr. peacefully went to paradise with the Lord on August 1, 2022 at his home in Grapevine, Texas, surrounded by his family and his favorite brown eyed puppy Tony.

Charles Collings Jr. is remembered by his friends and family in Texas, Pennsylvania, Florida, New Jersey, and Lima, Peru. He will especially be remembered as a selfless family man, a proud sailor and merchant marine, a dear friend, a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and supportive husband.

Per a sailor’s wishes his ashes will be scheduled to be scattered to the ocean on a future date.

Captain. All stop. Finished with engines. It is time to go to paradise.
