Brent (John Brentano) Bersbach

February 5, 1945 ~ May 20, 2022 (age 77)

Brent (John Brentano) Bersbach, 77, of Dallas, Texas, died Friday, 20 May 2022 in Plano, Texas of Stage 4 Sigmoid Colon Cancer.

Born on Monday, 5 February 1945, in Greenwich, Connecticut, where his father was stationed during World War II, Brent was the son of the late Marjorie Elizabeth (Millsap) (stage name: Dorothy Lee) formerly of San Diego, California and the late Frank John Bersbach formerly of Evanston, Illinois.

He had an idyllic childhood in the Chicago area, living in Winnetka, across from Lake Michigan, where he had many friends. He attended New Trier High School. He was captain of his football team, won 2 silver medals on the dive team, played golf, basketball and baseball. He was a very active athlete.

Brent earned a BS degree in Business Administration, at Southern Illinois University, after 2.5 years at the University of Iowa. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon.

He owned several companies over his career, starting with Bersbach Consulting Company in San Diego. In Dallas, he worked for Sigel’s Liquor for a few years before starting another consulting business.

After college graduation, he lived many years in San Diego, more years in Denver, Colorado, ultimately ending up in Dallas about 2003.

Brent had two American Revolution patriot ancestors (Col. Richard Elliott, VA and Joseph Millsaps, NC), though he never got around to joining the Sons of the American Revolution.

Brent was widely appreciated for his great sense of humor, knowledge of the law and, most of all, kindness and generosity.

Brent is survived by his partner of 20 years, Happi McQuirk, of Dallas, Texas and by two siblings, Betsy Bersbach Purvin of San Diego, California, and William Lee “Bill” Bersbach and his wife Mary Claire (Long) of Galena, Illinois and by many nieces and nephews.

Brent was preceded in death by one brother, Darryl "Dick" Lee of California and his parents as noted above.
