Bobbie Jean Hunt

Bobbie Jean Harper Hunt was born on September 1, 1935 in Dallas, Texas, the first of two children born to Lena B. Terrell and Bob Harper. She went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in McKinney, Texas surrounded by her loving family.

Bobbie is survived by her husband, Charles Hunt and sister, Susie Dunn; daughters, Debbie Cooper (Alan), Rebecca Rea (Robert); 9 grandchildren, Christi Bailey (Chad), Amy Villarreal (Jesse), Kelsey Cooper, Keala Rea-Jackson (Dave), Taeman Rea, Kekoa Rea, Sean Rea (Grace), Tyler Rea (Lauren), Ashley Thacker (Austin); and by 11 great-grandchildren, Cooper, Griffin, Jesse, Ava, Adrian, Aaron, Miqa, Brianna, Annabelle, Lachlan, and one more on the way.

Raised by her mother in the Dallas area, Bobbie began her lifelong ministry of caring for others. While her mother was working, she tended to her younger sister, Susie. Bobbie and Susie were not only sisters, but the very best of friends, talking to each other every day.

She briefly attended Richardson High School where she was named Homecoming Queen within two months of beginning there. Shortly after graduating, Bobbie met the love of her life while engaged to someone else. When Charles laid eyes on her he told his friend, “I am going to marry that girl”, and bet him five dollars. Charles won that bet in more than one way. He was the first person to notice that she was no longer wearing an engagement ring, and they were married only a few months later on October 3, 1953. Over a marriage of 70 years, she continually devoted herself to her husband and her family.

Bobbie and Charles had two precious little girls, Debbie and Rebecca. They raised them up to follow Christ, establishing a family of faith that continues to grow. Bobbie and Charles were founding members of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Later they joined Park Cities Baptist Church where they enjoyed fellowship with Floyd’s Faithful class, and often served by organizing retreats and social gatherings. This class has been like a second family, supporting each other with prayer calls, meeting online during the pandemic, and celebrating birthdays. 

Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren remember cheese balls by the pool in summer, taking the fish off the hook at the lake house, breakfasts full of piles of buttered “Nana’s toast”, dinners at Cracker Barrel,  licking the beaters, heaps of presents at their house on Christmas Eve, trips to the beach, world famous chocolate sheet cake, shopping trips, “the look”, calling their Nana about everything, attending all their recitals and games, calling every year to sing them Happy Birthday, and inspiring them with her example of love.

Whether serving at church, helping her husband with Hunt’s Food store, or inviting the neighborhood kids in for cookies, Nana’s life was characterized by her great love for everyone around her. 

Though we mourn her loss, we know her faith in Christ and God’s love have made her whole. We look forward to the day that Christ returns or we join her in glory.
